Rock Vomer, DO, DPT, CAQSM is a dual board-certified Family and Sports Medicine Physician and Doctor of Physical Therapy, treating patients at Avance Care in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Dr. Vomer completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Duke University. Prior to his fellowship, he completed his residency training at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. He obtained his medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in Blacksburg, Virginia, and obtained his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Vomer currently holds an appointed research position with the Mayo Clinic where his research focuses on Sports Medicine and improving access to primary care services for patients. Dr. Vomer is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American Medical Association. Dr. Vomer serves on research committees and works on creating policies to improve engagement and community service. Dr. Vomer specializes in Sports, Performance, and Weight Loss Medicine. These include the care of musculoskeletal injuries, fractures, concussions, nutrition management, and chronic pain. He has a holistic philosophy and approach to patient care and believes that everyone deserves a customized care plan to meet their unique needs. Additionally, Dr. Vomer incorporates his Doctor of Physical Therapy skills and Osteopathic Manipulation to optimize the athletic and physical performance of each patient.
Dr. Vomer cares for children and adults of all ages and is passionate about using his unique combination of education and skills to treat all patients. Throughout his career, he has had experience working with athletes at all levels of competition including recreational, high school, collegiate, and professional levels, and feels confident in helping athletes in the Wilmington community achieve their athletic goals. Dr. Vomer aims to return patients back to their active lifestyles after illnesses and injuries as quickly as possible and to keep the local community thriving on and off the field.
Outside of work, Dr. Vomer enjoys spending time with his wife Emma, their dog Tucker, and local family members who live in Wilmington. His hobbies include golfing, boating, fishing, and fitness. In his youth, Dr. Vomer was an avid football and baseball player. He is looking forward to working with youth and collegiate sports teams in the local community.
