Karen Buynak, MS, RDN, LDN is a board-certified Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech, studying Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise with a concentration in Dietetics, where she also studied Leadership and Social Change. Karen completed her Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at Virginia Tech while doing her supervised experiential learning with Cooperative Extension and Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia.
Karen is passionate about intuitive eating, Health at Every Size, and focuses on healthy, attainable lifestyle changes to support your goals. She is an advocate for increasing accessibility in health care and taking culturally competent approaches to optimize patient care. Karen believes in supporting her patients by tailoring counseling sessions to a patient’s specific needs and promoting a no-judgment atmosphere of collaboration between the patient and provider. She is enthusiastic about helping patients heal their relationship with food by incorporating positive conversations about body image and highlighting flaws in diet culture.
Karen’s interests are in women’s health, renal nutrition, disordered eating, and diabetes management. In her free time, Karen enjoys trying new recipes, watching football, playing board games, visiting her home state of Virginia, and spending time with her friends and family.
