Julia Christy, MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work and Bachelor of the Arts degree in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Julia has experience working in interpersonal violence prevention as a bilingual crisis hotline advocate as well as in an interim role as Latinx services coordinator, which led her to pursue a career in social work. After receiving her MSW in 2019, Julia worked in a community mental health setting as a clinician and manager at a behavioral health urgent care, working with individuals with a wide variety of mental health diagnoses who were experiencing crisis.
Julia strives to employ a holistic approach in her work, focusing on considering the whole person both through the lens of individual experiences as well as the lens of social identities. Her clinical work is heavily influenced by feminist and social justice theories. She implements strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy in an effort to empower individuals to better understand, contextualize, and manage their symptoms and reduce stress.
Julia grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina and spent a year as an exchange student in Argentina after high school, sparking a lifelong love for the Spanish language. She returned to North Carolina for college in 2009 and has been living in the Triangle ever since. Julia lives in Durham with her husband and pets. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, gardening, painting, taking care of her ever-growing collection of houseplants, and spending time with friends.
