Emma Vomer, DO, CAQSM is a dual board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at Avance Care Wilmington in Wilmington, North Carolina.
She completed her primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of South Carolina, where she worked with athletes from all teams, including the women’s basketball team during their 2024 National Championship win. Before this, she completed her Family Medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, where she also pursued a Fellowship in Quality Improvement Sciences. She earned her medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) at Virginia Tech and her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW).
Her approach focuses on using sports medicine principles to help patients achieve their health and wellness goals, whether through exercise, injury management, or nutrition counseling. She treats patients of all ages, from childhood wellness to chronic condition management, with a particular interest in female athletes. Dr. Vomer incorporates ultrasound for diagnosing and managing non-surgical orthopedic conditions and often uses Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT) as part of her holistic treatment plans.
Dr. Vomer is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the American Medical Association (AMA), where she holds a national position with AAFP and advocates for primary care issues at AMA meetings. She is also involved in the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), contributing to sports medicine research regularly.
Outside of work, Dr. Vomer enjoys hiking, walking her dog Tucker with her husband Rock, surfing, and exploring the local waterways. She is excited to return to Wilmington, where her family is from, and looks forward to discovering the area’s new restaurants.
