Before relocating to the United States, Ana Maria gained extensive professional experience in psychology. She worked as a psychologist in private practice, offering therapy sessions and administering psychological assessments. Additionally, she served as a College Counselor and Instructor at Metropolitana University in her hometown of Caracas. Ana Maria completed her graduate studies in Clinical Psychology and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Católica Andres Bello University.
With over two decades of clinical experience, Ana Maria is licensed as a Psychological Associate by the North Carolina Psychology Board. Her professional focus lies in providing clinical assessments and therapy services tailored to adolescents, adults, and seniors. Her areas of expertise are navigating life changes, managing stress, anxiety, mild to moderate depression, coping with grief, and addressing inattentive-hyperactive behaviors. Ana Maria has specialized training in multicultural issues, including acculturation stress cultural identity, and compassion fatigue among professionals in human and veterinary medicine.
Ana Maria is deeply committed to guiding her clients on their paths to healing and self-discovery, working within a framework that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. She utilizes an integrative approach to therapy, combining various techniques including Insight, Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Expressive Arts, and Narrative therapies to meet each individual’s unique needs.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Ana Maria enjoys reading, exploring cozy coffee shops, and capturing moments through her camera lens. She resides in Durham with her loved ones, both human and feline.
